Editorial :  Failure  to  feed  needy ,   medically treat poor

- An appeal to Honourable Supreme Court of India

At the outset  we salute  all health care workers , doctors , nurses and police  for ensuring  health care of all  and containing spread of Corona virus. Both central and state governments are putting their maximum efforts to feed the needy.  Please  read the  following  articles.

However  these efforts are getting derailed by  greedy people :

1. PDS shops are collecting money for ration. The weighment of ration provided is also less and all ration items are not given.

2. Government is disbursing relief aid based on BPL data. Most  of the BPL card holders  have got BPL card by their political connections and they are capable of feeding themselves. Still they are getting  reliefs from  government,  NGOs. Whereas  those who really need relief aid  don't  have BPL card  ( as they don't  have political connections ) and are denied  relief.

3. Government  is transferring  relief aid to Jan Dhan accounts. Here also many of the account holders are well off.

The intention of government is good. However  greed of man know  no bounds. There are people who have cars, rented out houses, lending money in lakhs  still they have BPL card , Jan Dhan account , old age pension and get all the benefits associated with it. They  have political connections.

These greedy fellows are literally  snatching away food meant for the needy. Hereby we request the honourable supreme court of india to order authorities :

1. To give relief aid to the needy  even if they don't  have BPL card , Jan Dhan account.

2. To  take action against  errant PDS shops.

3. To identify fake BPL card, Jan Dhan and old age pension  holders  and  recover   money from them.

4. To initiate criminal prosecution of public servants  who issued BPL cards , old age pension , Jan Dhan accounts  to  rich , unfit people.

5. We offer our conditional support  to  SCI  to  identify fake BPL card holders, fake old age pensioners, fake Jan Dhan account holders.

6. By denying  BPL card, Jan Dhan account , Old age pension to needy  whereas  giving the same to undeserving rich persons  concerned  public servants are  violating  “ Right  to  Life “ of  poor.

7. Rich people  have illegally  got bpl card , by virtue of it get medical facilities worth lakes of rupees  in premier hospitals free of cost. Whereas a genuine poor person doesn't  get bpl card and suffer death due to  lack of health care. Thereby government  itself is murdering the poor by denying him medical aid.

If  SCI  doesn't  act now,  needy will starve to death  without food or medical care  whereas greedy will snatch away  relief meant for needy. It is robbery of tax payers money. We request honourable  SCI to protect   poor people's  Right to  Life ie  right to food & medical aid. Jai Hind. Vande  Mataram.

Rich Must Give Up BPL Ration Cards Before Govt Acts, Warns Karnataka CM Yediyurappa

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday directed Deputy Commissioners to initiate action against 'rich' people who are in possession of Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards.

His direction came two days after Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti came under fierce attack from party leaders over his remarks on BPL ration card eligibility.

Yediyurappa told reporters that many affluent people have violated rules and secured BPL cards and his government had been kind enough to give adequate time to surrender such cards voluntarily.

"We need to maintain proper supply of grain under Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) to eligible beneficiaries and action has to be taken to prevent misuse of the benefits by ineligible persons," he said.

He added that all ineligible BPL ration card holders must return the card voluntarily, if they do not want to face legal action.

Responding to a question, he said that the BJP government had not changed any rules and it was implementing the same eligibility criteria that had been in existence since 2017.

"We are not changing any norms to issue BPL cards. But, at the same time, we cannot allow ineligible BPL card holders to thrive. Some rich have taken BPL cards, they must return their cards voluntarily," he said.

"What is there to discuss on this topic," he said, adding that the rules and directions which are in force since 2017 will continue now too.

"We will collect penalty from such people. I advise ineligible beneficiaries to return the cards in their own interest," he reiterated.

For two days, Katti came under flak over his remarks that those who own five acres of land, a fridge, a TV or a two-wheeler should return the BPL ration cards.

According to a senior official in the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the government was aware of norms being flouted by a section of government employees and some of the BPL card holders even own tractors and other vehicles. "We will act on such people first," he said.
